#2- CJ Stroud, Ohio State

Set 16 Ohio State passing and total offense records and an additional three Big Ten records

Overall

Ideal size for a QB, good athleticism, very good arm strength, and average mobility even though he is mainly drop back like Young. Beat out Quinn Ewers (one of the highest ranked recruits of the last decade who then transferred to Texas) for 2021 job and was Freshman of the year. Has arguably the best offensive line in country and rarely gets hit or sacked (12 times the entire year) so he runs an offense from an extremely clean pocket which leads to a lot of on schedule plays which is unlikely in NFL which presents itself as a possible adjustment-related concern. Does a better job than Young at planting feet consistently to avoid throwing off his back foot and avoiding throwing unbalanced unless necessary. Young is considered a complete prospect likely to be a good player who can win relatively fast, but while Stroud is not as sure of a thing, he likely has a higher natural ceiling due to great arm strength and exceptional accuracy on deep over the shoulder throws and on throws layered in the defense. His arm talent is of a higher potential and he has potential to be able to make all of the throws and be an elite arm talent. He has mobility as well all though he is not as mobile as Young. Perhaps not as complete, Stroud may still carry a higher ceiling than the polished Young. Will likely be top 5 pick, #1 or #2 QB.

Film Analysis

-Good throw on a line outside the numbers

-Good touch throw across middle

-Does, like Young, have an ability to extend plays when necessary and has a lot of talent around him using it effectively

-Beautiful lead pass on fly route over the shoulder to the outside with great touch

-Plenty of arm strength and throws with ease and casual motion which could lead to lazier throws all though it is speculation based on QB mechanical tendencies

-Accurate on deep throws very good at placing ball right over receivers shoulders. Leads receivers extremely well over middle and outside

-Dangerous throw across the field but did layer it in right over DB’s hands and into the chest of his receiver

-Trusts his receivers and places ball where only they can catch it. He can reverse fields and work back across through his reads to find open receivers. He also throws a good jump ball.

-Has a good feel of the game and can take over for his team when necessary with that X factor type quality while remaining calm and poised

-Perfect over the shoulder throw off back foot

-Runs a lot of play action. He does make risky decisions throwing into coverage at times. But he is excellent at layering balls into gaps in coverage. Also, his deep ball accuracy is elite and his ability to have touch, arm strength, and velocity is better than that of Young

-Good laser throw across middle low to receiver to avoid good coverage by DB

-Not as fast and quick as Young but takes longer strides when running more like a Trevor Lawrence

-Has more natural arm strength than Bryce Young. He has a good understanding and awareness of when and how to make back shoulder throws to avoid Safeties and to save WR’s from big hits (excellent ball placement)
