Overall
Originally went to Penn State but transferred to Kentucky in 2021 after two years of being Sean Clifford’s backup and he is now a Senior and will be 24 by the start of the NFL season. Known for having great potential as an arm talent. He had high expectations coming into the year and he had a solid year but still had some interception issues carry over from last season (65.4 completion percentage with 2,406 yds, 19 TD, 10 int in 2022 after throwing 24 TD and 13 int in 2021). Good size with very good arm strength and decent mobility that is most used in short yardage. Levis has potential to make plays off-schedule and has a good arm for short or intermediate passes in tight windows. But he does often under throw deep passes because he lobs the ball with arc rather than with pace and with a more direct path to the receiver which leads to interceptions, broken up passes and tackles on plays that should have been touch downs. Levis has physical ability, but he needs to work on the preciseness of his deep passes with more pace than arc. Levis also needs to be careful of lazy throws because technique flaws will lead to broken up passes and many interceptions in the NFL especially with his aggressive nature. Levis will likely be the 3rd or 4th QB taken behind Young and Stroud with Richardson being a wildcard to either be taken before or after him depending on the grades of the teams in the early to mid 1st round.
Film Analysis
-Good over the shoulder deep ball down left sideline hitting receiver on the run
-Had a lot of arc on a deep ball which was acceptable for the 1v1 coverage downfield but had more hang time than necessary. The pass was complete but it was a 50 50 ball won by the WR and in a clean pocket with time to throw
-Shows good arm strength and throws a good ball on a line through middle of field
-Good vision and anticipation to thread the ball through defenders with arm strength for a TD pass on a slant through the middle
-Great throw under pressure while getting hit to do a 45 degree arm angle to get the ball out in a collapsing pocket and to lay the ball out in front of his crossing receiver in 1v1 coverage to lead to a big play and a TD
-Again showed good strength and balance to throw under pressure off his back foot at a 45 degree arm angle to lead his receiver
-Well placed fade ball as a layup to his receiver where the defender couldn’t play the ball as it was at the perfect height with touch leading toward the back left corner of the endzone
-Tends to throw with a lot of arc on deep balls which can lead to missed opportunities and interceptions in the NFL with how fast and anticipatory the DB’s are and it can also prevent the ability to fire balls in tight windows downfield
-Can force deep passes such as one down the middle into double coverage while getting hit causing the ball to flutter. It was caught, but it was risky and would likely be broken up in the NFL
-Great missile throw to the flat to his left in the corner of the endzone to place the ball tight to the sideline on the away shoulder from the defender to allow receiver to make catch away from defender in tight coverage (only his receiver could catch it)
-Trusts his receivers which can lead to big plays and interceptions which is reflected in his scouting report and statistics
-Certainly has good arm velocity in short to intermediate throws as he fits balls into tight windows but needs to show more precision on deep passes
-Moves well and smoothly with natural throwing motion
-Accurate through the middle of the field down the seam
-Some good pocket movement avoiding pressure
-Throws a lot through the middle of the field
-Did make a great throw outside of pocket with time off his back foot on a rope to the left sideline showing intermediate and outside the numbers precision
-Commonly moves to left when in play action and does not move or throw to his right side often
-Stays on his toes and does not get flat footed which allows for quick release good pocket movement and velocity on his throws
-Threads the needle commonly in intermediate or short throws and is very good at making tight window throws to his receivers chest
-Laid ball out for his receiver down left sideline still with a lot of arc but it was necessary in this case as it allowed receiver time to break coverage and to run under the ball making a diving catch on the trusting lead pass
-Good back shoulder deep throw to left sideline off back foot leading to a catch and pass interference
-Great play to quick release a side arm pass with pace as he was falling to his right getting sacked by the legs to his RB for a big gain off schedule
-Under-threw deep ball because he didn’t plant his feet and he lobbed it which led to his wide open receiver getting tackled instead of scoring a TD as he had to wait for the ball
-Did throw a good high point deep pass to his right from his own endzone over Kelee Ringo (top 5 CB prospect 2023)
