Overall
Considered undersized which is only real concern of analysts. Young is very poised in pocket and has mobility despite the fact he is a pocket passer first. He is a very good overall athlete and he has the ability to extend plays with pocket movement and to make throws under pressure and off his back foot. Young worked with less talent around him in 2022 than in previous seasons showing adaptability to what is around him. He is elusive and slick, often escaping blitzes. Young shows consistent accuracy outside the numbers with good, not elite, arm strength but can throw it on a line on intermediate passes and can make necessary throws. Shows good deep accuracy often dropping the ball over the shoulder of his receivers. It has to be accounted for that he typically throws from clean pocket and has time without being rushed or pressured when defenses don’t blitz allowing him to sit back and be a field general. Young often throws with anticipation and trust in his receivers routes which allows him to hit his receivers in and out of their breaks for bigger gains without hesitation. He was a top recruit and has all of the mental and intellectual traits needed for an advanced understanding of the game leading to good decision making. He has been referred to as a smaller Patrick Mahomes because of his exceptional ability to extend plays and keep his eyes downfield finding receivers in an unconventional way. Other than his lack of natural physical stature and size looked for in QB prospects, Young is an overall safe selection with upside and many believe he can live up to franchise QB status. He will be a top 5 pick and the #1 or #2 QB off the board.
